MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry women’s soccer weathered a storm and the St. Thomas Bobcats for a 1-0 overtime win in their home opener on Monday night at Buccaneer Field.
Katie Lamendola knocked in the game-winner for her first career goal in the 99th minute after a corner by Sara Karna.
The Bobcats (0-2-0) had the best scoring chance of regulation. After a free kick, the ball bounced loose in the Buccaneer box and Sara Mira ripped a shot from point blank range, but Becca Rogers was there for the save.
At halftime, the game was delayed for an hour due to weather in the area. The Bucs imporved to 26-0-0 against the Bobcats all-time.
The Bucs out-shot the Bobcats 14-10, including 8-3 on goal, and led 8-2 in corners.
Rogers posted her second straight shutout for the Bucs (2-1-0), making three saves. Victoria Shahbaz made seven saves for the Bobcats, who lost their second straight in overtime.
Barry travels to Saint Leo on Saturday to open Sunshine State Conference play against the Lions.
