INDIANPOLIS--Barry University coach Jimmy Stobs is an organized perfectionist. He expects his team to follow suit. That's how championship-caliber teams are born.

Monday, on the first day of the 2012-13 men's golf season, the Buccaneers, who opened the season with a No. 2 national ranking in the NCAA Division II GolfWorld/Nike poll, are following suit. But if Stobs and his team could have it their way, they'd take center stage.

Barry trails No. 1-ranked Nova Southeastern by six strokes at the Brickyard Invitational in Indianapolis after two rounds on the par-72 Brickyard Crossing Golf Course. The Bucs shot 9-under 567 over the first two rounds. Nova entered the clubhouse at 15-under 561 at sunset Monday.

Buccaneers sophomore Berry Jole opened the season with a 6-under 70-68 -- 138 through 36 holes to enter Tuesday's final round behind Nova Southeastern's Ben Taylor, who shot 11-under 133 on the hallowed grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Western Washington's Jake Webb also shot 138 over the first two rounds to fall into a tie with Jole.

Western Washington sits third as a team, eight strokes behind the Buccaneers.

Barry senior Marcus Segerstrom shot 71-70 -- 141, and is sixth at 3-under. Bucs teammate Scott Smyers, a junior, is tied for 12th at even-par 144. Bucs newcomer Jared Dalga, a transfer from NCAA Division I Eastern Michigan, recovered from an opening-round 80 to fire a 3-under 69 in the second round. He is tied for 34th.

Buccaneer junior Marcelo Huarte shot 75-76 -- 151, and is tied for 49th at 7-over par.
