PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Barry University's No. 1-ranked men's golf team is in third place, following a rain-shortened opening-round-only first day at Nova Southeastern's Guy Harvey Invitational in West Palm Beach Monday.

The Buccaneers, who beat Nova in the season's first event in Indianapolis to win the team title, shot 2-over 290 on the par-72, 6,868-yard PGA National Champions Course. Rain cut the second round short, delaying completion until Tuesday when the three-round tournament is expected to be completed.

Nova Southeastern led after the opening round behind its 9-under 279. The Sharks' Ian Facey and Ben Taylor fired 6-under 66 and 5-under 67, respectively, to claim the top two spots on the individual leaderboard. Barry's Marcelo Huarte shot a 1-under 71, and is tied for sixth.

Barry's Jared Dalga, Scott Smyers and Berry Jole each shot 1-over 73, and are tied for 17th. Marcus Segerstrom shot 2-over 74 to position himself in a tie for 24th.

Eckerd is second after the 18-hole completion, following its even-par 288. Rollins is a stroke behind the Buccaneers in fourth. Lynn is fifth at 5-over 293.
