Women's Tennis' Mansour Takes 3rd at Miami Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Barry University's Mona Mansour took third place at the Miami Invite women's tennis tournament Sunday at the University of Miami.

Mansour, a junior from Sweden, beat North Florida's Melanie Aguirre, 6-1,. 3-6, 6-2, in the Orange bracket third place match. Mansour lost in Saturday's semifinals, and finished 3-1 in the tournament.

Bucs newcomer Isabela Miro, a sophomore from Brazil, took third in the Orange consolation bracket, beating Maryland's Sarah Gealer, 6-2, 6-2.

Barry's Linda Fritschken, a sophomore from Germany, lost in the Green bracket consolation third place match, falling to Florida Gulf Coast's Sarah Means, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3. 

Buccaneers junior Akemi Maehama, a native of Tokyo, Japan, who was raised in Miami, outbattled Gulf Coast's Morgan Bechtel, 7-6 (13-11), 6-0, to finish 13th in the Orange.

Barry junior Olivia Matuszak, another German native, lost to North Florida's Simona Weymar, 6-3, 6-0, in the Green seventh-place match.

Doubles play was cancelled due to rain. Fritschken and Miro were set to play for the Orange doubles consolation finals against Maryland's Vroni Van Berlo and Gealer.

The five Buccaneers players will compete in their final fall event Nov. 2-4 at the Florida International tournament.
