MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers got their first home win of  the season with a 4-3 victory over the Florida Southern Moccasins in Sunshine State Conference men’s soccer action at Buccaneer Field on Tuesday night.

The Mocs (2-10-1, 1-5-0 SSC) struck first and last, but in between it was all Buccaneers. Carlos Rodriguez gave Florida Southern a 1-0 lead just three minute into the game when he flicked a header over the out-stretched hands of Barry keeper Fred Perez.

The lead held up for almost 16 minutes. Barry even the match at 1-1 in the 20th minute as Patrick Drmola fed Kendall Sealy through the middle, leaving Sealy one-on-one with FSC keeper Brent Theriault. Sealy fired to the near post to knot the game.

The Bucs (4-8-1, 1-5-1 SSC) took the lead for good in the 29th minute. Drmola and Sealy worked a nifty combination at midfield to work free and Sealy found Kris Wilkinson at the top of the 18-yard box for the goal.

The second half was even more active as both teams scored twice. Joong Kim put Barry up 3-1 in the 57th minute when Sealy’s pass slithered through the Mocs’ defense and found Kim wide open on the right side. Kim finished for the 3-1 lead.

In the 63rd minute, the Mocs crept closer after a Barry miscue in the back. Thomas Blumenthal intercepted a pass from Cris Sevieri and fed the ball to Adam Hansjons at the top of the 18. Hansjons flicked a pass into the penalty area and Luke Jenner headed the ball past Perez.

Barry struck in the 78th minute. This time, Wilkinson fed the ball through the Mocs defense to Connor Randel on the left wing and Randel sprinted into the box and beat Theriault to the far post for a 4-2 lead.

The Mocs were not done, however. In the 84th minute, Ricky Marton launched a long pass into the penalty area and this time, it was Patrick Abrahamsson who flicked the header over Perez.

That was as close as it would get, though, as Barry killed the rest of the clock to walk away with the 4-3 win. Florida Southern held a 20-17 edge in shots, though Barry led 10-8 on goal. Perez had five saves to improve to 4-6-1 on the season, while Theriault stopped six shots, but took the loss to drop to 1-6.

The Bucs travel to Melbourne, Fla., on Saturday to face the Florida Tech Panthers at 3:30 pm. You can listen to all the action on the Buccaneer website at GoBarryBucs.com.
