Rowing: Bucs Open 8 Unit 5th at Head of Hooch

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- For the second straight day, Barry's rowing team finished near the top while wading through the water with some of the nation's best.

The Buccaneers Open 8+ crew of coxswain Grace Horwitz, stroke Kristina Boncheva, Anna Boada, Beth Desmond, Kelly Harrison, Mandy Carper, Helene Pierre, Emma Howard and bow Kasia Walentynowicz placed fifth out of 43 boats Sunday at the Head of the Hooch.

Barry finished in 17:18.8. Louisville's A crew won the race with a time of 16:28.3. Miami's A boat was second in 16:48.8, and Alabama A third in 17:11.

Head of the Hooch is marquee event in the rowing season, featuring major NCAA Division I schools and other rowing crews from all over the nation.

Saturday, Barry's 4+ A squad placed seventh.

Barry will complete the fall season when it rows in Saturday's FIRA Fall Race in Fellsmere, Fla.
