A Message from the Provost and the Vice President for Student Affairs

Dear Barry Community,

So the Center for Community Service Initiatives (CCSI) is effectively positioned to fulfill its vision and advance Barry University’s commitment to service, outreach, and community engagement, the Division of Student Affairs, in consultation with the CCSI, has refocused the mission and function of the De Porres Center for Community Service. The new De Porres Center will include goals and objectives that support CCSI’s service and community engagement philosophy but do not duplicate their programs and resources. Going forward, the CCSI will serve as the primary campus resource for University faculty, staff and students interested in community engagement and service opportunities. In addition, all AmeriCorps and America Reads programs that were previously housed in the De Porres Center have been moved to the CCSI. This will allow the Division of Student Affairs to begin developing a student leadership program that emphasizes social justice, diversity and inclusion, and spiritual formation. The refocused Center will be called the De Porres Center for Ethical Leadership and supports the University’s 2011-16 Strategic Agenda to enhance student leadership opportunities that are grounded in our Catholic identity, Dominican heritage and core commitments.
