Purim

Purim

The Department of Campus Ministry would like to wish our Jewish brothers and sisters a Happy Purim.

Purim takes place from sundown on Saturday, Feb. 23 through sundown on Sunday, Feb. 24. Purim is a joyous holiday when Jews celebrate having been saved from destruction in ancient Persia. It is customary, among Jews, to attend a public reading of the book of Esther, the book that narrates the Persian Jews’ endangerment and eventual redemption by Esther and Mordechai. Traditionally, on this day, Jews give extra charity, gifts of two different foods to friends, and children dress up in costume.
