The Minority Association of Pre-health Students (MAPS) partnered with pre-health students from the Barry chapters of the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) and the Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society forming a team of volunteers at the 2013 Nautica South Beach Triathlon earlier this month.

The event which served as a major fundraiser for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, hosted more than 3,000 athletes. MAPS, AMSA and Tri-Beta students weathered the 4:30 a.m. call time serving as facilitators ensuring the event ran smoothly. The two-day event raised more than $470,000 to support research at St. Jude.

MAPS is a multicultural student organization with members from undergraduate (biology, chemistry, nursing) and graduate (BMS) programs at Barry. For more information about this organization, e-mail: BarryMAPS@gmail.com and/or visit: BarryMAPS.blogspot.com.
