Rowing Wins Pair of Heat Races at Dad Vail

PHILADELPHIA -- Barry University's rowing crew picked up a couple heat victories at the Dad Vail Regatta Friday, sending both of the Buccaneers' boats on to Saturday's semifinals and finals.

Barry's 4+ of coxswain Angela Dasch, stroke Kasia Walentynowicz, Mandy Carper, Helene Pierre and bow Rebekah Kilroy won their heat race, beating the likes of Wheaton, New York, Brandeis and Franklin Pierce in the Division II/III event. The Buccaneers were the top qualifier of three from the heat to advance to the semifinals.

The Bucs 8+ of cox Gracie Horwitz, stroke Kristina Boncheva, Anna Boada, Rosita Boncheva, Monika Kaminska, Bethany Desmond, Anais Foppoli, Emma Howard and bow Kelly Harrison won their heat race by outstroking Mercyhurst, Philadelphia, Rollins and Florida Tech. Barry will advance to the finals.

"We had solid results today in the 4 and 8," Barry coach Dave Sanderson said. "Each boat rowed a good piece, and the athletes are looking forward to tomorrow."
