FORT VALLEY, Ga.—The ninth-ranked Barry Buccaneers cruised over the Fort Valley State Wildcats taking both ends of a twinbill 14-0 and 16-3, both in five innings on Wednesday at Wildcat Field.

The Bucs (14-4) exploded out of the gate, scoring four runs in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. Kayla Ogle and Megan Copeland walked and the Wildcats committed three errors to score the runs.

Ogle went on to score three more runs and also steal four bases to tie the Barry school records in those categories. Hunter Mars went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBI. Kelly Martinez, making her first start of the season, went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Taylor Sabol (5-3) worked three scoreless innings in relief of Camille Czarnecki, allowing one hit and one walk. She struck out four. Alexis Ricks (0-19) took the loss for the Wildcats (0-21). She went the distance, allowing 14 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits and seven walks.

In the second game, the Bucs sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring seven runs. Lexi Corrente had a two-run double in the frame.

The Bucs added four in the second as Copeland had a two-run double. Nicole Szelest had a two-run single in the third. The Bucs closed the scoring in the fifth. Szelest reached on an error and Kristina Pazienza walked. Cheyanne Head singled up the middle to score Szelest and Wildcat centerfielder Bia Stearns over-ran the ball and both Pazienza and Head came all the way around to score.

Czarnecki (5-1) worked all five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk and struck out 10. Crystal Richmond (0-2) worked the first two-thirds of the first inning for FVSU to take the loss, allowing seven runs on two hits and seven walks.

Mars went 5-for-6 with three RBI and scored four runs. Ogle only went 1-for-2 in the twinbill, but walked five times, stole seven bases and scored six runs. Szelest went 2-for-5 with three RBI. Corrente also drove in three, going 2-for-2 with a double.

The Bucs play Georgia College and Newberry on Friday and Saturday at the GCSU Round Robin.
