Baseball Clipped By Tars At Home

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University’s baseball team dropped a Sunshine State Conference matchup against the Tars of Rollins College Friday night, 9-3, at Feinbloom filed.

The Buccaneers (18-12, 1-9) struggled offensively throughout the game. Rollins’ starter Hendricks (3-2) held the Bucs’ offense in-check, allowing just two runs, one earned, and two hits through six innings of work to earn the victory.

Rollins (13-14, 1-9 SSC) scored six runs in the second inning and never looked back. The Buccaneers answered with a run in the bottom of the second on Greg Brodzinski’s RBI double to left to pull within five, 6-1.

The Tars added a run in the fourth, fifth and eighth inning and the Bucs managed just two runs the rest of the way.

J.C. Cardenas drove in the Buccaneers’ second run in the sixth with a drive into the right-center gap and Brodzinski belted his second RBI double of the game in the seventh to bring Barry within six, 9-3.

Adrian Benitez (3-2) suffered his shortest outing of the season. The right-hander allowed six runs in 1.2 innings of work.

Brodzinski paced the Bucs offense with a three-hit, two RBI night. Luis Deville allowed just two runs in 4.2 innings in relief of Benitez and Blaine Duncan held the Tars to just one run in the final 2.2 innings while striking out four.

Saturday, the two teams will square-off in a double-header scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Live-stat and video broadcast will be available through Barry University’s athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
