Women's Soccer Sits On Top of First Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS –The first official NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Regional Rankings are out and the Barry Buccaneers are situated atop the South Region for the first time since 2004.

The Bucs (10-1-2, 6-0-1 SSC) have one regular season game remaining, a makeup from a Sept. 20 rainout at Eckerd that kicks off on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 4:30 pm.

The Bucs have been a very strong defensive side again this season, leading the Sunshine State Conference in goals against average at just 0.67 per game. Senior keeper Becca Rogers, the reigning SSC Defensive Player of the Year, has been outstanding again, leading the league with a 0.45 goals against average and an 87.5 save percentage. Defenders Ashley Harlan and Katie Turner have proven leaders in the back, both making the Academic All-South Region Team. Harlan has started every game and contributed four assists, good for second on the team. Turner is the only player to play every minute of the season so far.

Offensively, the Bucs have been balanced. Lavinia Nkomo leads the team with five goals. Shanice Robe, with four goals and three assists, is tied with Nkomo for the lead in points. Lauren Manna and Rayah Seckler also have four goals each. Tamara Vuckovich leads the team with six assists.

The Bucs have already secured a bye in the SSC Quarterfinals. A win over the Tritons on Saturday will give the Bucs their second straight conference regular season title and the right to host the finals of the tournament Nov. 7-9.
