MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University volleyball team dropped a three-set Sunshine State Conference match to the Lynn University Knights on Saturday. The Bucs kept it close in all three sets, but fell 25-23, 25-19, 25-22.

The Buccaneers (16-9, 6-6 SSC) took an early 3-1 lead in the first before Lynn (12-11, 5-7 SSC) tied it at 3-3. The teams traded points back and forth through much of the remainder of the set. Tied at 18-18, Lynn took seven of the final 12 points to take the 25-23 win.

In the second set, the Bucs and Knights were again close throughout much of the game. Lynn held a slim 7-5 lead before a Tashalyn Begon kill, a Jenny Trinidad ace and a Knight error helped the Bucs tie the set at 8-8. Lynn held a 20-18 lead late in the game and took five of six points down the stretch for the 25-19 win.

The final set saw the Bucs take a 10-7 lead before Lynn stole three straight for a 10-10 tie. Lynn went up 17-12 with the help of three Buccaneer hitting errors. The Bucs fought their way back to get within two, 21-23, but a pair of Lynn kills gave the Knights the 25-22 win in the final set.

The Bucs were led on offense by Begon who had 12 kills and Trinidad with 23 assists. The Knights’ offense was paced by Katie Knight who had nine kills. Lydia West put up nine total blocks, two solo, seven assisted, on defense.

The Bucs are back at home next weekend, hosting Saint Leo on Friday, Nov. 7 and Florida Southern on Saturday, Nov. 8.
