MELBOURNE, Fla. – Sunshine State Conference champs, Barry University, swept the league's women's soccer Players of the Week awards as Lavinia Nkomo and Aly Picascio were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week respectively. Nkomo & Picascio were selected SSC Players of the Week from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of October 27 – November 2.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Junior midfielder Nkomo scored the game-winner and added an assist in the final SSC regular season game of the year. Nkomo put in the game winning goal during the 13th minute. She added an assist in the 30th minute, totaling three points in the 3-0 Barry victory.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Picascio, a junior defender, was instrumental in Barry’s shutout of Eckerd this week. During the 25th minute, she stopped the Triton’s first shot on goal, preserving a 1-0 Buccaneer lead. She also helped lead Barry’s defense, which allowed just four shots, two on goal, in the Bucs' seventh shutout of the season.

With the play of Nkomo and Picascio, Barry’s gains a win that secures the 2014 SSC Regular Season championship. The Buccaneers earn the No. 1 seed to the postseason tournament and will host the semifinal and championship final.
