A Message from the Vice President for Student Affairs

Please join me in welcoming the following new members to the Division of Student Affairs team.

Public Safety and Emergency Management:

John Buhrmaster began as the Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management on Monday, August 10, 2015. The Director’s position was repurposed over the summer to include leadership to our emergency management program as an essential function of this position. John’s law experience as well as his expertise in emergency management will be great assets to the university. John, an alumni from Barry’s School of Professional And Career Education, comes to us with 40 years of law enforcement experience. He last served as Captain of Police, Criminal Investigations Division, with the City of Miami Beach Police Department. John also has a MS in Executive Management from St. Thomas University.

Campus Ministry:

Karen Stalnaker assumed the role of Director of Campus Ministry on Monday, August 3, 2015. Karen is a two-time Barry University alumna with a BA in French and a MA in Practical Theology. Prior to becoming our Director, she served as the Director of Camus Ministry at Archbishop McCarthy High School. As a BarryU alumna, she brings a great deal of passion and excitement to the Campus Ministry Department. She also will provide valuable leadership and experience to our retreat program.

Hamilton Gutierrez joins Karen as the Coordinator for Worship and Music Ministry. Hamilton was the music director at St. Dominic Catholic Church from 2009 until 2015 before joining the BarryU Campus Ministry team. He is an accomplished pianist and vocalist and keeps his talents active through participation in various local and national musical ensembles.
