Measuring and Improving our Technology Carbon Footprint

Universities and other businesses buy IT equipment in volume, and that gives us a lot of purchasing power. Supporting vendors who use greener manufacturing practices drives the industry to become more ecologically sustainable. We think that’s really important.

As part of our commitment to social justice, we want to know just how eco-friendly our PCs, printers and multi-function printers are. Through partnership with the Green Electronics Council we’ve received ratings for the various models of devices we use today, which will help inform our purchasing decisions to reduce our carbon footprint even further.

Many of the devices we use are rated as gold by EPEAT standards, and we want Barry University to become an EPEAT rated purchasing institution. Look out for more developments in the coming year!

You can help too! Purchase environmentally friendly computers, mobile devices and other electronics by searching the EPEAT registry before you buy. Read about EPEAT’s criteria for ratings, their participating institutions, and more at http://greenelectronicscouncil.org.
