Dr. Borgen is an experienced educator with thirty-plus years of experience as classroom teacher, department chairperson, assistant principal and principal at different levels (elementary, high school, adult, career-technical and college/university). She earned prestigious district and community service awards such as regional Principal of the Year (twice); Woman Worth Knowing Award from the City of Miami Commission on the Status of Women, 2007; City of Miami Beach Proclamation - Rosa D. Borgen Day, 2001; Distinguished Citizen Award, City of Miami Beach, 2000; Woman Worth Knowing Award from the City of Miami Beach Commission on the Status of Women, 1999.
One of her prominent accomplishments is to have co-authored the first federal Twenty-First Century Community Learning Center grant for Miami-Dade County Public Schools which was funded for three years, one of only 99 awards granted that year in the nation, which helped establish multi-generational learning programs in both elementary and secondary schools in the district.
