Testimonials

See what graduates have to say about the Barry University Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management:

  1. "Working as a first responder I felt like I had an idea of what Emergency Management encompassed. However, by completing the EMA program through Barry, I was able to build a comprehensive understanding of Emergency Management principles and programs in use at the local, state, and national levels. I feel this knowledge is applicable to my current profession and opens future opportunities." Firefighter/Paramedic
  2. “The Emergency Management curriculum is extremely rewarding at Barry University. The courses prepare you for the ever-changing landscape of being a leader in the field. I felt a great sense of accomplishment upon my graduation.” Detective – Sheriff’s Office
  3. “The emergency management program at Barry University was both informative and challenging in the right ways. As a Battalion Chief for the Fire department with 15 years of experience in the fire service and ten years as an Urban Search and Rescue disaster responder I found that the program brought a great deal of insight to both worlds and more. More important than responding to disasters and emergency scenes is how we can learn from them and become more resilient. The Emergency Management program at Barry gives lessons learned from past experiences which enhances your ability to prepare for the future and to help create more resilient communities and business continuity.” Battalion Chief – Fire Rescue

Adult Learner FAQs Experiential Learning Portfolio Presentation

Thousands of Barry University adult students have completed portfolios and considered this experience time and cost effective as well as personally rewarding.

Here are what three students said about their portfolio experience:

  • speech bubbles

    Student 1

"You know, it sort of gave me more pep in my step and actually gave me a sense of accomplishment and pride. It also made me realize how marketable I am. It did, it did a lot of things for me but it really gave me a sense of empowerment."
  • speech bubbles

    Student 2

It really made me stop and think. It reinforced my belief in myself. I tend to get so caught up in everyday situations that I forget that I ever did something, you know, fifteen years ago. I think the portfolio is one of the most rewarding pieces of work that I have ever done."
  • speech bubbles

    Student 3

The insight gained from [my] portfolio helped me to see, as the slogan goes, ‘You've come a long way baby'! in my accomplishments, achievements, [and] my development. A degree with a portfolio makes you assess your professional life; without a portfolio, you just know your academic strengths, but you don't know your professional strengths."
