Athletic Training, BS

About the Program Athletic Training, BS

The BS in Athletic Training requires 125 - semester hours of study, which can be completed in four years, and a minimum of 1,200 hours of supervised clinical experience. The program is developed around a total of 80-semester hours with 22 - semester hours in the Sport and Exercise Science (SES) Core and 55-semester hours specific to the Athletic Training major.

A minimum grade of C is required in all major, SES core, and co-requisite courses. Specific technical standards must be met and a separate physical examination and clinical application process are required to complete this bachelor's program. If you would like more information on these requirements, you can consult the university catalog or send an online question to the Program Director.

National Certification and State of Florida Licensing: Completion of the degree and clinical requirements will prepare you to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination. If you major in athletic training, you must sit for the BOC examination prior to being approved for graduation. You will be responsible for all examination fees and the cost of all related travel to and from the examination site. The fee structure can be found on the BOC website.

BOC certification, in combination with the B.S. degree in Athletic Training and certifications in Professional Rescuer CPR with AED, qualifies Barry graduates to apply for a State of Florida License in Athletic Training. For additional information on licensing, please send the Program Director a question online.

Minors in Exercise Science and Sport Management are available to support your major in Athletic Training. Majors in the health-related fields of nursing, pre-medicine, allied health, and biological sciences offer courses for those who are interested in enhancing their knowledge of human performance and movement science.

Additional opportunities: If you are interested in pursuing Pre-Medicine or Pre-Physical Therapy specializations, other allied health programs, or taking courses that lead to Florida Teacher certification in the related disciplines of Biology, Health, or Physical Education, your Barry advisor can answer questions regarding these options.
