Professional Writing Graduates
"From the dedication of the professors, to the intimate classroom settings, the English Department’s Professional Writing Program was simply heaven sent. I couldn’t be any happier with the outcome. I learned more than I expected, and I will forever be thankful with everyone behind this lovely department. It really doesn’t matter what field destiny will take me, since I went from journalism, to copywriting, and now I’m doing marketing and writing blogs. The English Department prepared me for it all. I tell everyone I meet today that twelve years ago I didn’t speak English and five years ago I didn’t write English well, but today, after my experience at Barry with the Professional Writing Program, I’m now a professional writer."
Professional Writing, Alum 2012
"The Professional Writing program at Barry University gave me the skills and confidence necessary to enter a field I've dreamed about since childhood. My internship at Ocean Drive Magazine provided a blueprint for my time with DC Comics, Archie Comics and with renowned artists like Trina Robbins. My classes and esteemed professors prepared me for the reality of the work place and the ingenuity it takes to not only craft text I can be proud of, but the ability to market it to employers. I am a better writer because of the opportunities I've been given at Barry."
Professional Writing Alum, 2006
"I graduated in May 2012 and immediately began working for Onboard Media as Associate Media Coordinator. I utilized plenty of creative writing skills for the company's social media channels, handled marketing for their purse line (Parazul) and even got a chance to write my own article about Caribbean libations for our onboard magazines on Princess Cruises and Carnival Cruise Lines. In June, I began working as Production Coordinator for the Video department, and I continue to assist in the marketing for our company's non-profit initiative Hand-in-Hand for Haiti. Without the internship program, I would never have been able to land this job; I am so thankful for this being a part of my curriculum in the Professional Writing program."
