Conference Mission
The mission of the Men in Leadership Initiative is to specifically target the male demographic of the Barry University campus, along with community affiliates, in order to foster and stimulate healthy discussions in a controlled and safe environment that minimizes the social taboos that men face. The goal of this mini conference is to discuss a variety of topics including financial planning, spirituality, etiquette, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Our hope is that this conference provides the Barry University men with the impetus needed to make a positive impact on themselves, their social environments, and the global community.
The Week at a Glance
September 23 – 25, 2013
Day 1: Monday – 7-9pm – Landon Events Room
The ‘Real Talk’ Candid Conversations
The MIL ‘Real Talk’ Candid Conversations will introduce six gentlemen from various professions to the young men of the Barry community through a panel discussion. Each gentleman will speak on the importance, the role, and the responsibilities of men within several different areas such as Servant Leadership, Financial Planning, Sexual Responsibility/Respect, Ethics, Spirituality amongst other key topics.
Day one of the ‘Man Up!’ Conference will conclude with a keynote presentation by Ancel Pratt III a now fulltime Miami Heat employee that went through a rough experience getting there.

Learning Outcomes
- Participants will understand the importance, the role, and the responsibilities of men as it pertains to financial planning, sexual responsibility/respect, and ethics as evidenced by the conference review survey.
- Participants will learn from others experiences through facilitated discussion as evidenced by the conference review survey.
- Participants will understand how to help and take advantage of one another in order to elevate their personal brand as evidenced by the conference review survey.
Day 2: Tuesday – 6-7pm – Landon Events Room
Networking and Professional Social Etiquette
A Social Networking event for all of the Barry University men to illustrate the Power of Networking. This social hour is an opportunity for the men to connect with one another and take advantage of the information shared throughout the day in order to help one another better create, establish, and elevate his Brand in a comfortable and informal setting.
*First 10 males will have reserved seats to ‘The Flight – Beer Tasting’ Event in WOW Café following the event (Must be 21 and over)
Learning Outcomes
- Participants will understand the power of networking and be comfortable in doing so in a professional social environment.
- To gain an understanding of international beer and how to peer with various foods. Having knowledge in this can be useful in a networking environment to aid in the stimulation of healthy conversations.
Day 3: Wednesday - 12-2pm – Thompson Lobby
‘A Man-tastic Day’
Come out and receive FREE Facial Hot Shaves and FREE 5 minute Massages!
This day will definitely be ‘Man-Tastic’ with Best Moustache, Balloon Shaving, and Arm Wrestling competitions. Come out and have a ‘Man-Tastic’ day!
