Barry University’s Second Annual Community Engagement Symposium will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015. The Second Annual Community Engagement Awards will coincide with the Symposium.
The Symposium is a forum for presentations and discussions of community engagement projects, practices, and perspectives. The main features of the program are seminars/workshops; concurrent presentations by faculty, students, and community partners; and a poster session.
Lead Presenter:
Dr. Barbara Jacoby: Faculty Associate for Leadership and Community-Service Learning, University of Maryland, College Park; former Engaged Scholar, Campus Compact; author; consultant on service-learning and civic engagement.
2015 Theme:
Enhancing Community Engagement and Collaboration
Goals:
- Discuss community engagement and collaboration in the context of the University’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)
- Elucidate the concepts of experiential learning, service-learning, community-based research, and community-engaged scholarship
- Share strategies for effective university–community partner collaboration
- Explore methods for evaluating community engagement outcomes for campus and community stakeholders
Concurrent Presentations:
Faculty, students, staff, and community partners are invited to submit proposals for concurrent-session presentations. Emphasis is placed on joint presentations involving faculty/staff and students with community partners.
