Barry University’s Use of Funds Distributed From HEERF- Student Funds as reported in Announcement #5 and posted September 03, 2020:
Barry University acknowledges that the institution signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement(s) and assures that the institution intends to use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
Barry University has received an award notification that totals $2,513,699 from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants funds distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of September 03, 2020 is $2,513,699
The estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 4,226.
The total number of students who have received funding through the Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 4,226.
Barry University has distributed:
Approximately 50% to all qualified students and an additional estimated 20% to qualified residential students. These funds were distributed automatically through direct deposits or checks. No action was required by students to receive these funds. Total Funds distributed as of September 03, 2020 is $1,684,300.
The final 30% of funds was available on a first-come, first-serve basis to students who qualify and applied for additional emergency relief. Students who qualified to apply for additional emergency relief received an email with a link to an application. Students were informed that these funds were available on a first come, first served basis and were encouraged to submit a completed form as soon as possible. Total Funds distributed as of September 03, 2020 is $829,399.
All awarded funds were distributed either by direct deposit or a check and may take four to six (4-6) weeks to arrive. Students are reminded to update their contact information, following the directions below.

Barry University’s Use of Funds Distributed From HEERF is as Follows:
Barry University acknowledges that the institution signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreements for each of these awards and assures that the institution intends to use the funds received under terms defined in the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students and Emergency Stabilization of the University.
Barry University has received three award notifications; Emergency Student Funding of $2,513,699, Emergency Stabilization Institutional Funding of $2,513,699 and Emergency Stabilization Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Funding of $379,780.
Distribution of Barry University’s Emergency Financial Aid Grants funds to students is detailed in Barry University CARES Act HEERF Announcement #2 – June 24, 2020.
Barry University, as required by State mandates, closed campuses in March 2020 and shifted educational programs to a remote platform for the balance of the Spring 2020 Semester and all Summer 2020 Sessions.
Barry University has worked with the CDC and State Health officials to prepare the campuses for a hybrid educational platform to begin in August 2020 which will accommodate both in-person and remote learning.
Expenditures for implementing these guidelines include; i.e., purchasing and distribution of masks, personal protective items for clinical rotations, sanitation/disinfection of learning facilities, social distancing signage, installation of appropriate barriers for operations, installation of learning technologies both software and hardware. This list is a sample and is not all inclusive since the pandemic remains an evolving event. Funds for Institutional Stabilization will provide support for some of these expenditures. However, the total expenditures to accommodate recommended safety measures will significantly exceed these awards.
