Performance Behavior Lab

The Performance Behavior Laboratory (PBL) is housed in the Sport and Exercise Sciences at Barry University. This laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art hardware and software that provides you with quality research and service opportunities. The equipment allows for research opportunities with a variety of psychophysiological recordings including Electroencephalography (EEG), Evoked Related Potentials (ERP), Electromyography (EMG), Heart Rate (HR), Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), Respiration Breathing (RB), and Skin Temperature (ST).

You will learn how to collect and analyze data from the Performance Behavior Laboratory, the Human Performance Laboratory, and the Biomechanics Laboratory. These three laboratories are housed in the Sport and Exercise Sciences and allow students to conduct cross-disciplinary research. Hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art laboratories will enable you to gain the skills necessary to correctly apply selected quantitative movement analysis techniques to sport and exercise activities.

Clinical Laboratory

In addition, clinical lab space offers an environment for you to learn and practice sport psychology intervention and consulting skills under the guidance of our faculty.

The facility includes two observation rooms with one-way mirrors, in which you'll be able to practice and observe real-time interventions with athletes and/or video record the sessions.

The psychophysiological state-of-the art equipment is also being used to develop interventions based on bio-feedback. These techniques will enable you to work with athletes to regulate physiological processes that are usually unnoticed, such as heart rate, respiration, muscle tension, and brain wave activity. Digital video analysis equipment allows for structured performance recall as an effective tool in enhancing athletic performance and polishing the consulting skills that you will be developing. An important product of this technique is the performance enhancement DVDs customized for athletes and exercisers.

The proximity of the classrooms and computer lab makes the clinic a convenient learning environment.
