Leta Hicks, EdD
Dr. Hicks completed her graduate studies at Oklahoma State University, earning a Master of Science degree in Health, Physical Education and Leisure Science and a Doctor of Education degree in Higher Education. She has been on the faculty and held a variety of administrative positions in the School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences (HPLS) at Barry University for over twenty years. She has served as Program Coordinator for the B.S. degree in Physical Education; Director of Graduate Programs in the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences (SES); Chair, Department of SES; Associate Dean, School of HPLS; and Interim Dean, School of HPLS. Most recently she directed the Sport and Exercise Sciences undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered at an off-site location in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 2014-2015 she returned to the campus in Miami to support distance learning in the Sport and Exercise Sciences with a focus on enhancing online offerings.
Dr. Hicks teaches a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses, especially in the Sport and Exercise Sciences core curriculum; serves on numerous school and university committees and initiatives; and stays actively involved in professional development and community service. Her research interests are in two areas: studying the effectiveness of teaching methodologies and examining the experiences of participants in outdoor adventure tourism and outdoor recreation activities.
