The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) in partnership with KIA Motors America, Inc., recently selected Barry University senior Alejandro Tobon for its KIA Motors America Scholarship program for the 2015-16 school year.
The scholarship is intended to provide tuition assistance to some of the best and brightest minds in higher education. The scholarship is open to fulltime undergraduate and graduate students attending a four-year HACU-member institution within the United States, or Puerto Rico. Students must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Tobon joins 15 college students from across the nation in earning the award. Tobon will receive $4,000 dollars toward the cost of tuition.
A senior, Tobon is a majoring in pre-med biology with a double minor in chemistry and exercise physiology. He was the recipient of Barry’s 2015 St. Catherine’s Medal and is the previous winner of the Mother Gerald Barry Outstanding Sophomore Award in 2014. Tobon is a member of Barry’s Alternative Spring Break program and serves as the co-chair of the organization. He is the current president of Barry’s Minority Association of Pre-Health Students and serves as community service chair for Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, the Latina American Student Association, and the Men Achieving Leadership, Excellence, and Success organization.
