Women's Tennis Takes Care of Tars

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Barry University No. 2-ranked women’s tennis team beat No. 12 Rollins, 6-3, Saturday.

The Buccaneers (19-0, 6-0 Sunshine State Conference) had not played since beating No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic on March 22.

Linda Fritschken and Karina Goia each won twice for the Buccaneers, who improved to 11-0 against ranked teams this season. Ranked No. 33, Fritschken rolled by Carli Davis, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Fritschken and Kimmy Twelker shut out Ashley Loft and Callie Whitlock, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles.

Goia cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 No. 4 singles win over Mariana Salvador. Goia and Isabela Miro beat Salvador and Davis, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.

Barry’s Emma Onila, the 41st-ranked singles player in NCAA Division II, beat Ashley Rosenberg, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. Barry’s Akemi Maehama defeated Loft, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6.

The Buccaneers No. 1 pairs team of Onila and Elisabeth Abanda, ranked 11th in the country, lost to Elissa DeCampli and Rosenberg, 9-8 (6). Ranked 28th, Abanda fell to DeCampli, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Miro lost to Whitlock in a third-set match tiebreaker battle, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8, at No. 5.

The Bucs play at No. 14 Tampa 10 a.m. Sunday.
