MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry softball team lost twice to Palm Beach Atlantic at Buccaneer Field on Wednesday night, dropping the first game 3-2 in eight innings and the second game 7-5.

In the first game, the Bucs (29-18) trailed 1-0 heading into the seventh inning. Natalia Ojeda led off with a double and Sarah Broeseker lifted a sacrifice fly to left to even the game at 1-1.

But in the eighth, with the tie-breaker in effect, the Sailfish (27-21) plated two runs, while the Bucs could only manage one.

Alexis Yohe (16-7) took the loss, two runs on seven hits. She walked three and struck out five. Amber Johnson (14-7) picked up the win in relief of Mary Pippin.

In the nightcap, the Sailfish won in a back-and-forth game. PBA took a 2-0 lead in the first, but Barry bounced back to tie the game at 2-2 on a home run by Kayla Monroy, her third in the last five games.

After the Sailfish recaptured the lead at 4-2 in the third, Barry scored twice in the bottom of the inning to knot the game at 4-4. Julie Brito had an RBI double and scored on a single by Kelly Martinez.

But PBA scored twice in the fifth and once in the sixth and Barry could only muster a run in the seventh as Britney Pugh’s pop up was dropped by Sailfish second baseman Theresa Butler.

Camille Czarnecki (6-4) took the loss for Barry in relief, while Johnson won again for PBA.

The Bucs close out the season this weekend with a three-game set against Eckerd.
