School of Social Work names Philip Giarraffa Director of Enrollment and Student Services

The Ellen Whiteside McDonnell School of Social Work is pleased to announce the addition of Philip Giarraffa, LMSW, MPH, to the position of Director of Enrollment and Student Services.

In his new position, Giarraffa will manage all administrative functions and tasks related to the School of Social Work’s marketing, recruitment, screening, and admissions services for the PhD, MSW, and BSW Programs.

Giarraffa most recently served as a counselor and transfer coordinator for the Percy E. Sutton Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge (SEEK) program at the City University of New York’s Queens College. In this position, he was responsible for coordinating the transfer for all students entering the program as well as managing recruitment efforts for the program.

Prior to his position at Queens College, Phillip served as a counseling coordinator at CUNY’s Bronx Community College where he provided counseling services including registration, academic advising, and career and personal counseling. 

Giarraffa has more than 12 years combined experience in social services, student counseling, fundraising and recruitment. He is a published author and his research interests include evaluating the efficacy of social work practices in the criminal justice field, analyzing the social, environmental, and physiological determents that impact minority male retention rates in higher education, and screening and assessment of substance abuse disorders.

Giarraffa earned a Master of Social Work degree from New York University. He holds a Master of Public Health from CUNY’s Hunter College and a B.S. from CUNY’s Brooklyn College.
