Campus Ministry Invites the Barry Community to Respond to Typhoon Haiyan SurvivorsThe Department of Campus Ministry invites members of the Barry Community to stand in solidarity with the people of the Philippines as they recover from the devastating impact of Super Typhoon Haiyan. The storm hit the central part of the Philippines on Friday, November 8. The official death count stands at 2,344 with thousands more injured and missing. Basic life essential—food, water, shelter, medical care, and sanitation needs are desperately wanted by the hundreds of thousands of people who lost their homes. As one of the largest and deadliest storms on record, the tragedy raises questions about the connection between global climate change and its impact on the poorest and the most vulnerable. As a University community, we are invited to respond as we are able to the needs of our brothers and sisters abroad. You are invited to: - Pray (see prayer to the right). You may also light a virtual candle on the Catholic Relief Services website (http://virtualchapel.crs.org/)
- Make a donation to a humanitarian agency that is providing immediate relief to the affected communities. Campus Ministry recommends Catholic Relief Services and Habitat for Humanity, two international development agencies that have longstanding programs in the Philippines and that Barry has worked with in the past. You may also utilize Charity Navigator to identify other highly rated donor agencies.
Or drop off your cash donation to the Campus Ministry Office (behind Cor Jesu Chapel). Donations will be accepted through next Friday, November 22, 2013 at noon.
