Volleyball Drops Season Finale to Saint Leo

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's volleyball team didn't give senior Ashley Carrero the farewell they were hoping for. Instead the Buccaneers dropped the final match of the season, 25-20, 25-20, 25-20 to Saint Leo Saturday.

Carrero capped her career with nine kills and seven digs, finishing with 489 kills in her two-year Buccaneer tenure.

The Buccaneers, who finished the season 11-17 overall, 4-12 in the Sunshine State Conference, held a 20-18 lead in the opening set, but NCAA Tournament-bound Saint Leo (23-10, 10-6) reeled off the last seven points of the set to steal one away.

The Lions hit .333 in the opening set, while the Buccaneers hit .158.

Barry committed 10 hitting errors in each of the final two sets, dropping the Bucs overall attack rate to .070. Saint Leo had a .298 attack percentage in the match.

Jordan Sisson had 12 kills, and Tawni Warren 11. Sisson hit .588. Jaclyn Mailoto had 40 assists and 10 digs for the Lions, who outblocked the Bucs, 8-3.

Tashalyn Begon finished with nine kills and a .250 attack percentage, and Jayla Trombley and Ivana Didanovic each had five kills for Barry. Didanovic had two of the Buccaneers' three service aces. Jenny Trinidad had 30 assists, marking the sixth straight match she recorded 30 or more assists to end the season.

The Bucs are eligible to return 12 of their 13 roster players next season.
