MEMPHIS, Tenn.--A pair of men’s soccer standouts, Thomas Coombes and Nico Gercke, received Daktronics Second-Team All-South Region selections.

The Buccaneers finished the 2013 season on a strong note with a 4-1-2 record down the stretch while defeating Florida Southern and Lynn on penalty kicks in the Sunshine State Conference tournament on their way to the title.

A big part of the Bucs’ success was the strong play of junior midfielder Nico Gercke and forward Thomas Coombes.

A native of Newcastle, England, Coombes led the Buccaneers with nine goals and 19 points. Gercke provided the Bucs’ midfield a physical presence and served as a strong defender with the ability to finish goals as well.

Gercke delivered a pair of goals including the game-winner in Barry’s 4-3 victory over Saint Leo University in the Sunshine State Conference semifinal match.

Coombes also earned a spot on the SSC All-Conference honorable mention this season, while Gercke earned SSC All-Tournament honors.
