MIAMI, Fla. – Barry University President Sister Linda Bevilacqua, OP, PhD, named Sue Rosenthal, former vice president of finance for the Miami Herald Media Co., as the university’s vice president for business and finance. Rosenthal began her new role on March 10, 2014.

In her new role, Rosenthal will provide strategic financial leadership and direct all aspects of the university’s finance, accounting, and facilities departments. She will be a part of the university’s executive team tasked with setting institutional goals and formulating institutional policy.

Rosenthal is no stranger to Barry University, having served as a member of the board of trustees from 2006 to 2010, including chairing the Finance and Facilities Committee from 2009 to 2010.

“We are pleased and fortunate to have Sue join our University community” President Bevilacqua said. “In addition to her familiarity with Barry, respect for our values, and personal integrity, Sue will serve the University’s strategic goals effectively by sharing her extensive financial expertise and financial planning skills that were honed and successfully executed in her tenure at the Miami Herald.”

A native of Solon, Ohio, Rosenthal has more than 20 years’ experience in the financial planning and accounting sector. With the Herald Media Co. since 2002, Rosenthal managed all financial aspects including forecasting, credit and collections, billing and rating for advertising and circulation, payroll, accounts payable, general ledger accounting, and month-end reporting. Her cost-saving techniques resulted in more than $125 million in expense savings since 2009. Most recently, Rosenthal managed all financial aspects of the Miami Herald’s $50 million move to Doral.

Prior to her experience with the Miami Herald Media Co., Rosenthal served as senior director of business development with Commerce One, director of financial planning with Viacom, and senior financial analyst of business development and capital planning with the General Motors Treasures Office.

“I'm thrilled and honored to be joining the Barry community,” Rosenthal said. “I've always been impressed by the work Barry has done and couldn't be happier to be contributing to its future success.”

Rosenthal has been involved in volunteer work for more than a decade. She is the current president of the board for Miami Herald Charities and a member of the Miami Children’s Museum board of directors. In recent years, she has served on the North Beach Elementary Educational Excellence School Advisory Council and the Temple Beth Shalom School Committee.

Rosenthal received her B.S. in business from Miami University (Ohio) in 1991 and her MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business in 1996. A mother of two, Rosenthal and her husband, Steve, have been married for 12 years.
