Women's Golf Moves Up One Spot at SSC Championships

DADE CITY, Fla. -- Barry University women's golf team moved up one spot on the leaderboard at the Sunshine State Conference Championships Monday at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.

The Buccaneers, ranked No. 2 in the country, shot 303 in the second round on the par-72, 6,175-yard course to move into fifth place with a 610 36-hole total and 18 holes to play. They entered the day in sixth place.

Lynn leads the tournament at 592 after shooting 296 for a second straight day. First-round leader Rollins is second at 601 after shooting 309. Saint Leo is third at 602, and Nova Southeastern fourth at 605. Florida Tech is a stroke behind the Bucs in sixth in the nine-team tournament.

Barry’s Martina Bertuccioli shot 74 in the second round, and remains in seventh place on the individual leaderboard. Saint Leo’s Marie Coors holds a three-stroke lead over Lynn’s Jessica Bradley. Coors shot 75 in the second round, and leads the 45-player field at 141. Bradley shot 74 Monday. Rollins’ Hally Leadbetter, Lynn’s Louise Manalo and Florida Southern’s Emily Rymer are tied for third at 145. Nova’s Liliana Cammisa is a stroke ahead of Bertuccioli in sixth.

Barry’s Nicky Ferre shot 76 in the second round, and is eighth at 148. Nancy Vergara is tied for 15th after shooting the low round for the Bucs with a 1-over 73. Maria Paola Fiorio is 32nd at 163. Francesca Perini is 33rd at 165.

Vergara had three birdies and four bogeys in the second round. Ferre had two birdies. Bertuccioli had 16 pars and two bogeys.  Fiorio birdied the par-3, 105-yard 14th in the second round.

The tournament concludes Tuesday with tee times set for 8:30 a.m. in a shotgun start.
