MAPS raises awareness of the need for bone marrow donors

With the existing critical need for bone marrow donors, members of Barry’s Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS) volunteered on behalf of The Icla Da Silva Foundation, performing simultaneous bone marrow registry drives in Thompson Hall and Landon atrium on February 27, 2014.

The group spent the day signing individuals up for the Be The MatchTM bone marrow registry and educating people about the critical shortage of bone marrow donors.  Such a great need exists because family members are compatible matches only 25 percent of the time; the vast majority of those awaiting donors – more than 70 percent – are children.
