Dr. Sanjay Sesodia named new Associate Academic Dean for School of Podiatric Medicine

Sanjay Sesodia, PhD, is the new Associate Academic Dean for the School of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Sesodia began his new role in the summer of 2014. A professor of anatomy (neurophysiology), Dr. Sesodia has been teaching at Barry since 1995. His other duties include coordinator of physiology course in the Podiatric Medicine program and co-director of pathology labs.

Dr. Sesodia earned his B.Sc. in physiology and zoology from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England in 1980. He later continued his studies to receive a M.Sc. in experimental histopathology and clinical pharmacology (toxicology) from the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (University of London), England the following year and in 1986 earned his PhD in medicine from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England.

In 2009 and again in 2013, Dr. Sesodia won the Outstanding Scholarship Award from Barry. Dr. Sesodia currently serves as president of the Florida Academy of Sciences. Prior to that, he served as the section chair of the medical sciences for the Florida Academy of Sciences. Since 1989, Dr. Sesodia has been a member of the Society for Neuroscience and since 2002 he has been a member of the American Physiological Society.

His research interests include the differential response of skeletal muscle fiber types to denervation. This research focuses on the premise that the different fiber types found in muscle are differentially susceptible to the loss of nerve input. This research seeks to clarify whether the same fiber types in different muscles respond similarly to denervation.
