BOCA RATON, Fla. – Barry University's volleyball team dropped its first conference match in three sets, falling 26-24, 25-21, 25-23 to rival Lynn on the road Friday night.

The Buccaneers (8-4, 1-2 Sunshine State Conference) looked poised to recover after dropping its previous two matches when they took a 19-16 lead in the first set on a kill by Eva Raat. But Lynn (5-5, 1-2) responded by scoring five of the next six points. Barry middle blocker Katie Dooley’s kill to tie things up at 22-22 wasn’t enough to overcome two costly Bucs service errors and three Fighting Knights kills that ended the first set.

In the second set, Barry came back from a 15-11 deficit to tie it at 18-18 on Jayla Trombley’s kill. But three big Lynn putaways and a Buccaneers attacking error gave the Fighting Knights a 22-19 lead before Lynn took a 2-0 match lead into intermission.

Ivana Didanovic’s kill late in the third set gave Barry a 22-20 lead, but Lynn ran off five of the last six points to put the match away.

Barry’s Tashalyn Begon had 12 kills and nine digs, while hitting .222. Raat had eight kills, two blocks and a .278 hitting percentage. Didanovic had six kills, three blocks and hit .545. Trombley had six kills. Jasmine Serna had 20 aces.

Elyse Fleck had 10 kills, and hit .471 for Lynn, and Marissa Tandron had 30 assists and five blocks.

The Bucs had nine service errors, while the Fighting Knights committed six. The Buccaneers hit .135. Lynn hit .214.
