SUMTER, S.C. -- Barry University’s Fabian Groetsch won his opening round match at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Small College Championships Thursday at Palmetto Tennis Center.

The No. 2 seed, Groetsch, a senior from Nuremberg, Germany, beat Midwestern State’s Kyle Davidson, 6-3, 6-1, to reach the semifinals. It was Groetsch’s only match of the day.

He will play Armstrong Atlantic’s Fernando Bogajo, the third seed, at 8:30 a.m. Friday in the semifinals.

The tournament, representing the champions from each of the nation’s eight regions, continues through the weekend. The winner earns a chance to play for the Super Bowl title – a compilation of all smaller college divisions from junior college, NAIA, NCAA Division III and Division II.

Groetsch competed in the 2012 Small College doubles championships.
