MELBOURNE, Fla. – Barry University’s Anders Haas was named the Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Haas, a junior guard from Copenhagen, Denmark, burst into the spotlight Friday night after scoring a career-high 35 points on 11 of 13 shooting, including eight of nine triples in No. 8 Barry’s 97-70 win over Nyack (N.Y.) in Lynn’s Boca Raton Classic. He also had six rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal, while making all five of his free throws.

One night later, the Albany transfer had 21 points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists, while going four of eight from the field and three of six from 3-point range in the Buccaneers’ 98-90 win over Winston-Salem State, which was receiving votes in last week’s national polls. He went 10-for-10 from the free throw line to complete a perfect week from the stripe.

Against No. 9 Indianapolis on Tuesday, Haas sank all three of his free throws. He capped 2014 with 20 straight free throws over a four-game stretch.  Haas is shooting 93 percent from the stripe this season, while averaging 12.6 points per game.

“Anders had the breakout game that we had been expecting from him on Friday night,” said Barry assistant coach Justin Furr, who played a key role in bringing the Albany transfer to Miami Shores. “He was able to build on that on Saturday, and we look forward to him carrying that momentum into SSC play.”

In the three games, Haas averaged 20.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists during the week.

Barry will play No. 1 Florida Southern 7:30 p.m. Jan. 3 in Lakeland, Florida.
