MELBOURNE, Fla. – Barry University junior forward Yunio Barrueta was named the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season.

Barrueta, a 6-foot-6 product of Hialeah Gardens High School in Miami, averaged 23.5 points, eight rebounds, three assists and 2.5 blocks in two conference road tests last week. He also went a combined 15 of 15 from the line in the two victories for the No. 3-rannked Buccaneers.

A preseason Honorable Mention All-American by the Sporting News, Barrueta had 22 points, eight boards and three blocks, while going a career-best 11 of 11 from the free throw line at No. 16 Lynn Wednesday. He followed that up with a 25-point, eight-rebound, five-assist, two-block and one-steal performance in a comeback double-overtime win at Eckerd Saturday.

Barrueta, a transfer from East Tennessee State, has scored in double figures in all but one game this year for 15-1 Barry, which hosts Tampa (11-6, 4-3) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Health & Sports Center.
