Barry University alumna Tami Lynn Williams, Bachelor of Music ’03, was recently named by ArtsEd Forever! as its Arts Teacher of the Year for Music.

Williams, a teacher at West Hollywood Elementary in Hollywood, Fla., teaches pre-K through 5th grade music and oversees the 3rd grade through 5th grade chorus group and 4th and 5th grade Bucket Drumming group. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Music from Barry University.

“I am so incredibly thankful and honored to have won Arts Teacher of the Year for Music. It’s such as blessing to do what I love and receive recognition for it,” said Williams. “My students inspire me every day, and I am always learning from them.”

ArtsEd Forever! is a year-round program that honors exemplary arts educators; recognizes outstanding contributions to arts education made by individuals, legislators, businesses and organizations; and showcases the artistic talent of youth throughout Broward County.

There are two main categories of awards: Arts Teacher of the Year for school-based arts teachers in Broward County public, charter and private schools; and the Teaching Artist of the Year for teaching artists who work in multiple learning environments.

For 30 years, Broward Cultural Division, the School Board of Broward County, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and other generous private sector donors have called attention to the importance of arts education in Broward County schools. The Arts Educators of the Year Awards honors educators who demonstrate an on-going commitment to applying best practices in arts education in schools and communities.
