Barry University welcomes John D. Murray, PhD, as Provost

Now that the new academic year has started, Barry University would like to officially welcome John D. Murray, PhD, as its new Provost and Professor of Psychology.

Murray comes to Barry University from Indiana State University, where for the last six years he has been Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the largest college at Indiana State. Prior to his leadership role at Indiana State, he was the chair of the Psychology Department at Georgia Southern University. Murray’s teaching positions include tenured Professor of Psychology at Indiana State and Professor of Psychology at Georgia Southern University.

“I am honored and very excited to be able to serve the students of Barry University,” said Murray. “The values that originally defined the university when it was founded more than 75 years ago are still prevalent today. I look forward to working with deans, faculty and executive leadership to continue to evolve and grow the university while staying true to its core values and mission.”  

Murray earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and a PhD in Psychology from the University of California in Santa Barbara. He completed postdoctoral studies at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Murray relocated to Miami with his wife Dr. Rebecca Murray, a clinical psychologist, and daughter Kate.
