Nine nursing students awarded scholarships from REACH-UP program

Nine students from Barry’s undergraduate nursing program were each recently awarded a $10,000 HRSA REACH-UP for Nursing Workforce Diversity scholarship.

The program focuses on strengthening the national capacity to produce a health care workforce with racial and ethnic diversity representative of the U.S. population. Each year, the Barry University undergraduate nursing REACH-UP team grants qualified recipients with a $10,000 scholarship. A reception in recognition of the students took place March 27 in the Gato Gallary.

Program Director Dr. Mary Colvin explained the REACH-UP for Nursing acronym and its relevance to the HRSA grant. Academic Coach Hallie Maskow shared information on why each scholarship recipient chose a career in nursing. Throughout the academic year and in support of Barry’s mission , scholarship recipients will participate in service learning opportunities, leadership seminars, and charitable work.
