Barry University’s Sports Medicine Club along with athletic training faculty recently conducted a continuing education workshop for Miami-Dade County athletic trainers.
The workshop — titled “2017 Miami-Dade Athletic Trainer’s Spine Injury Field Management Workshop” — featured 35 certified and licensed athletic trainers from Miami-Dade County. Drs. Sue Shapiro and Yzu Kuo — faculty members from Barry’s Athletic Training program in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences — along with clinical instructor Meredith Parry led the workshop. Barry students also provided assistance.
The workshop was a practical skills lab and educational experience on spine boarding techniques and football equipment removal for athletes with a suspected injury to the spine. This event was sponsored by Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute at Baptist Health South Florida.
