The Barry University community stands in solidarity with the students, faculty, staff and administrators of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, as well as the residents of the surrounding communities, including members of our university community.
We are praying for the victims and families of this senseless massacre and for everyone who is experiencing pain, fear and anger. As a Catholic, Dominican institution, from our prayer and reflection, we commit ourselves to action. We call forth and support courageous and wise leaders who will balance the compelling needs for policies that foster and fiscally support the identification and response to behavioral cues, the availability of and access to mental health services and prudent gun control. These are not “either-or” discussions – they are “both-and.”
