Media Students and Professionals Can Now Earn Avid Video Editing Certification at Barry

If you work in digital media—or plan to—you probably know about Avid. The software company is the global leader in multimedia storytelling, with more than 95 percent of today’s film and television production companies leveraging its Media Composer technology.

The ubiquity of Avid’s Media Composer programs means that major studios around the globe are seeking Avid-certified creators and editors. That’s why Barry University’s Communication and Continuing Education departments have teamed up with the software brand as part of the Avid Learning Partner (ALP) Program. Officially launched last spring with an undergraduate course called “Editing Digital Media,” the program recognizes Barry as an authorized Avid Media Composer Training & Certification center and enables both undergraduates and industry professionals to earn the prestigious Avid Editing Certification.

“So far, six students from last spring’s Avid training cohort have earned the professional credential of Avid Certified User,” says ALP Program Director John Musulin. “Nehemiah Reid, a Communication major, was the first to garner this highly regarded status. The second, Dyaundra Stroman, came all the way from Hollywood, California, to study with us.” Already working in media when she found Barry’s program on the Avid website, Dyaundra decided to relocate temporarily to Miami to train for her certification.

Worldwide, Barry is one of only a handful of Avid Training Centers that offer this highly regarded Avid Media Composer certification training to both Academic students and Working Professionals. This distinction enables us to train content creators at various stages of their careers—from undergraduate students to mid-level professionals and up. “We are very excited about being an Avid Learning Partner and offering this professional video-editing certification program to our students and local community,” says Musulin. “It will give our students the skills and competitive edge they need to be successful in today’s Media Industry.” As of now, the training course is accessible each spring through the Communication Department curriculum, with Continuing Education launching a special program catering to busy professionals this fall.

So, who should plan to sign up for Barry’s Avid Media Composer certification program? “Anyone interested in producing and editing media on a professional level,” says Musulin, “whether it be for the movies, television, internet, or corporate world. The certification is highly respected in the industry. It will get you a job and a bigger paycheck.”
