South Florida People of Color Presents What is Black III at Barry University

(MIAMI, FL) As part of Black History Month, Barry University will host What is Black III: Colorism and its Impact on Communities of Color on Thursday, February 27 on the Miami Shores Campus in Weber Hall. The event will feature an exclusive screening of the documentary Dark Girls, an exploration of deep-seated biases and attitudes about skin color.

Organizers will facilitate a talkback after the screening, focusing on colorism within the black community, living as “Dark Girls” in America, and the long-term effects of feeling devalued in society.

The event will conclude with a healing circle, aimed at helping all participants get to a place of healing and realize their higher selves.

What is Black III is cosponsored by the Barry University College of Arts & Sciences Psychology Department and Campus Ministry and presented by South Florida People of Color and the South Florida Chapter of The Association of Black Psychologists.

The following individuals will facilitate the event:

  • Barry University Associate Professor of Psychology, Dr. Pamela D. Hall
  • Rev. Richard Clements of Barry University Campus Ministry
  • Dr. Latasha Russell, President of the South Florida Chapter of The Association of Black Psychologists
  • Roni Bennett, Executive Director of South Florida People of Color
