Barry University Chamber Singers Ensemble Comes Together Virtually for a Powerful Performance

(MIAMI, FL) Though physically separated, the Barry University Chamber Singers Ensemble continues to come together virtually, making music and lifting spirits. As part of a class project after the University transitioned to remote instruction due to the global pandemic, Dr. Giselle Rios led the group in a powerful performance of the Dominican Magnificat.

“In a time like this, you want to keep inspiring and motivating students,” Dr. Rios said. “Making music is what we do. This is our gift, and uplifting people through music is a way that we can help. It is very fulfilling.”

The group performed the piece together at the Inauguration of Barry’s President, Dr. Mike Allen, in November.

Of the selection of the piece for this project, Dr. Rios said “It’s uplifting, a deep reflection. I feel it’s the soul of Barry and this is a time for all of us to really think about our purpose, our vulnerability and our humbleness.”

The group’s next project is a piece from the Italian opera, Nabucco. The selection of the Dominican Magnificat is in solidarity with the Barry University community, and the upcoming selection is in solidarity with those in Italy, also hard-hit by the pandemic.

Students each submitted audio tracks and performed live together via Zoom. Video is available for download here.
