Barry University Announces Strategic Campus Reopening Planning

(MIAMI, FL) With an eye toward reopening campuses for the fall semester, Barry University today announced that four task forces are developing a strategic plan for the safe and gradual return to all university locations.

“It is our plan and intention to provide an in-person learning and living experience in the fall, provided we can do so safely and in alignment with guidance from public health experts and local regulations,” said Barry University President, Dr. Mike Allen. “Due to the unpredictable nature of this crisis, our working groups are considering and planning for every eventuality. No matter what the scenario, our commitment to quality academic instruction is unwavering.”

The task forces established last month will focus on healthcare planning, implementing university-wide policies related to protecting health and safety, academic planning, and student life. They will develop parameters for all in-person interactions as well as cleaning protocols, both based on the most up-to-date guidance from public health authorities.

“Every aspect of university life is being scrutinized through the lens of the pandemic and the potential for a lasting societal impact,” Dr. Allen continued. “Our reopening will be thoughtful and deliberate.”

Parameters surrounding phased reopening will be communicated with the community as they are developed.

Barry’s Command Decision Team has been proactive throughout the crisis, implementing policy in alignment with rapidly evolving guidance from public health experts as well as local, state and federal governments. The university transitioned to remote instruction and work on March 19.
